I would like to thank Mark Kelley for these very nice Albanies.

O'Connel Albanies have quite a history behind them.

Here is some of it from "Slipspur"

They started with Solly O'Connell of course but that ain't the cool part. Freddy Hunter is the one that makes the story worth telling. As a young man Freddy got hooked up with a Gang of robbers, the Alvin Karpis Gang. You can read about Freddy and Eddie in a book called, On the Rock. It is a book about Alcatraz. Freddy ended up doing 17 years in Alcatraz and while he was there he became obsessed with gamefowl. He read everything he could get including all the Game Fowl magazines and so forth. He studies genetics, nutrition and everything he could think of that might pertain to game fowl. He also watched to see who won consistantly. When Freddy got out of prison he went directly to Solly's place and bought the start of these Albanys. At some point Freddy became Red Richardson's feeder and fed for him till Reds death.

Freddy stuttered real bad, but when they were robbing something he would talk clear as a bell. He was one of the last of the gang caught because of that. Freddy also tried to escape from Alcatraz 3 times and twice was the only one to survive the attempt. Back when Freddy was alive these ol' Albanys were very sought after and very few people ever got any of em.

My mentor Claude Hicks met Freddy at a pit in Arkansas and they became life long friends. Freddy had inbred these Albanys without adding any outside blood for years and started to get these "off colored" punkin spangles. Claude loved em and Freddy gave em to Claude. Claude bred em without adding any outside blood till his death. I got mine from Claude and took em back to him during a nasty divorce I was going through. After Claudes death I got a pair from his daughter and have been trying to raise what I think Freddy & Claude would approve of. I think I'm there, but I was sure sweating for a while.

They come 100% straight combed, 100% yellow legged and 100% Spangles of varying colors.

Albany Hen.

Here is a link to the story of Freddie Hunter. Its a long read but very cool. He was a contemporary of Al Capone, and there have been several movies and books written about Ma Barker and the Barker-Karpus gang.

The link goes to page 5 of the story where there is quite a bit about Freddie Hunter. You might want to go back to page one to read the story.
